Bonding
At our clinic, we perform BONDING, which means COMPOSITE VENEERS WITHOUT GRINDING. During bonding, tooth tissue is not interfered with at all. We therefore avoid what is worst. For example, there is no need to grind teeth or take impressions. However, we can straighten teeth on this occasion, achieving an immediate and spectacular effect.
Bonding also works very well when you need to close diastemas, i.e. gaps between teeth, when orthodontic treatment is not possible. We also use bonding for other malocclusions. Importantly, this procedure is reversible. You can always undergo traditional orthodontic treatment, because under the composite layer we have your own tooth, easy to clean from resin under a microscope.
Since bonding does not damage tooth tissue with a drill, a great advantage of this method is the absence of complications that sometimes occur after grinding for porcelain veneers or crowns (pain, gum recession). Another advantage is the relatively low price.
Dr. Magdalena Osiewicz has been conducting research in Amsterdam for years on the durability of bonding in patients suffering from bruxism (in short - grinding teeth while awake and / or during sleep). Such patients are very demanding when it comes to veneer durability, but the results of in-vitro research conducted by Dr. Osiewicz prove that bonding durability in bruxism patients is as long as 10 years, even without using a protective splint at night.
Of course, much depends on the composite material used and the accuracy of the diagnosis. For comparison: the durability of porcelain veneers is also 10 years according to research. Therefore, it is difficult to say that bonding is a temporary solution, and it has the advantage that we do not make irreversible changes to the tooth structure during the procedure. For this reason, bonding is especially recommended for young people.
Dr. Osiewicz believes that for patients with pathological tooth wear, bonding should become the standard of treatment. Teeth in such people are already heavily weakened, damaged, small and worn, so additional grinding for ceramic crowns causes further loss of tooth tissue, intensifies problems and entails the risk of complications and the need for root canal treatment.
During the bonding procedure, the dentist applies appropriate material to the teeth, rebuilding them and additionally protecting them in this way. This is a completely safe method. Bonding is therefore recommended in case of tooth discoloration or enamel hypoplasia, in case of gum and bone diseases, and also when it is necessary to correct the shape and color of teeth.
With bonding, you can very quickly and very effectively improve both patient health and smile aesthetics, without exposing them to high costs, such as with ceramic crowns. Frankly, sometimes bonding is the only way.
Of course, it sometimes happens that bonding is not possible in some patients and conventional actions must be taken, i.e. ceramic crowns or veneers must be made. Therefore, you should always first visit a prosthodontics specialist who has comprehensive knowledge about available solutions that improve health, tooth functionality and smile aesthetics.
